Why Choose a buttercream wedding cake?

Buttercream has always been my preferred medium for covering cakes. It is versatile and the flavour is sweet, complementing the cake without being too overpowering. There is obviously a huge range of buttercream recipes out there but all of them share the same benefits.

First of all we have piping. While you can pipe onto fondant it is usually done with royal icing which is quite hard when set. Piping with buttercream onto a buttercream cake means you can enjoy the same intricate designs that you can get with royal icing without having to forgo any of the flavour or buttery texture.

Speaking of flavour, the taste of fondant has always reminded me of eating kids birthday cake at the local function room. Lots of lovely memories but not really the vibe most people want for their wedding day. Buttercream is a light alternative that is both tasty and versatile, used to create a variety of different styles.

Cakes can be kept simple using buttercream as the perfect base for real florals and foliage, creating a simple yet elegant look. They can be covered in beautiful hand-piped / hand-painted florals for a real showstopper or you can even go vintage and have a beautiful piped Lambeth cake. The list doesn't end there, there are so many different looks that can be achieved with buttercream without having to sacrifice on flavour.

Now, as much as I love buttercream, it's understandable that couples have concerns about ordering a buttercream cake. The main concern being "What if it melts?" When delivering your cake I take a number of measures to ensure that the cake arrives safely and will not melt on your special day - particularly in warmer weather

  1. The cake remains chilled during transportation right up until delivery.

  2. Wherever possible, I stack the cake on site and bring extra buttercream for any touch ups required so your cake is looking perfect ready for your guests

  3. On warm days I schedule my arrival as late as possible so that the cake isn't sitting out any longer than required.

In short, if you would like a buttercream cake you are not limited to the semi-naked cakes that have been popular in recent years. You can create a cake as simple or as decadent as you like and it will taste amazing to boot!
